 Orana Wildlife Park 

On Monday we went to Orana Wildlife park. We went there for our hauora kete. We went to Orana park on a bus a left about 9:30. When we got to Orana Wildlife park we lined in our groups. In our groups we explored the park. The person who showed us around was Toby and was one of the keepers. We saw a lot of animals and birds. My favorite part about going to Orana park was getting to see the kiwis and the Tigers.

When we went to see the kiwis we had to be very quiet. It was hard to find the kiwis cause it was very dark but I did mange to find all of them.

When we went through to see the tigers. We saw a male tiger and he was fully grown. The Tiger was growling a lot and Toby said if it is a mean growl it is for is brother. If it was a growl that is kind  of quiet it means it was for us. I liked seeing the tigers because I love the strips on there body and how they move around.

Overall I loved my trip to Orana Wildlife Park because I loved that we got to go out in the sun and see some magnificent animals.

The Color of The Flame

The Color of The Flame
Today we had science YAY.

Today we were learning and using the Bunsen Burner.

We had to learn the safety rules first though obviously.

1. The location of the lab fire extinguisher and safety blanket is known.

2. Safety glasses were worn.

3. Long hair was tied back and loose items of clothing tucked away.

4. The Bunsen Burner was placed on a heat resistance surface. 

5. The Bunsen Burner is not too close to the edge of the desk.

6. The burner was connected to the gas tap correctly.

7. The rubber tubing was checked for cracks or leaks. 

8. The air hole on the Bunsen burner was closed before lighting.

9. The splint was lit before the gas was turned on.

10. The splint was positioned correctly while the gas was turned on.

11. The student can adjust the flame safely.

So after all that we could get started.

When we were using the Bunsen burner we had to make the different color flames e.g a blue to green flame. At the end we got a Bunsen Burner licence.
I liked using the Bunsen burner because i had never used one before. My favorite part was getting to see the flames change there color.

Lunch Box Homework week 2

The Fabulous lunch box

This is a lunch box that has a balance of fruit and snacks. This lunch box is good because it has a good amount of fruit. It has an apple some grapes and a watermelon. It also has some carrots which is a vegetable. This lunch box has a total of 4 fruit and veg so it will be easy to get a total of 5 fruit a day with this lunch box. For the yummy treats it has nuts and croissant. To top it all off it has a juice box and a sandwich.

This would have to be my absolute dream lunch box.

Digital learning tools
We use a lot of  different online tools to help us in class. We use these online tools to either help us out, make something more efficiently or make something more creative. In this case it is to help us out.

e-ako maths is one of our many online tools we use.

e-ako is a site based on learning maths.

It teaches you all about

This site is really handy when you are being introduced to something that you are stuck on and helps you in many ways. If lets say you are struggling on your basic facts it has range of tasks to help you get better.

Overall I like using e-ako because it teaches maths to me in a different light to what teachers do.

Math Time

913 - 57 = ??? In maths we have been learning how to take away a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number. The way we have learnt I think is easy and is fast to do. The method is to use addition and subtraction.
This is how we used this method to work out 913 - 57= ?

913 - 57 = 856

57 + 43 = 100

913 - 100 = 813

813 + 43 = 856

Highlighted in red is the adding and subtracting.
I think that this is the best way to work out what an answer to an 3 digit number take away 2 digit number.
Overall I think that this would come in hand when working out something when you do not have a calculator handy.

Aim: To watch dry ice and water mix to make coloured bubbles.

Equipment

1 Dry Ice

2 80mls water

3 There drops food colouring

4 Detergent

5 measuring beaker.

6 ice cream container 

and most importantly safety glasses 

Which gas is heaviest?

Aim: To find our which gas is the heaviest out of C02 and O2.

1 Test Tube

3 Dry ice

4 Water

Our World Our Life

We have been learning about the 4 spheres. Geosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere. To show are learning we used the digital tool called thinglink. I learnt a lot about each sphere and now I am sharing it with you. You may think you know lots about the hydrosphere but did you know water is a million years old. Well its true so I guess you don't know everything so why not stop and have a little read...

Get a pet from the pound

We have read a reading text about adopting a pet so we had to make a poster. I like the part in the reading text where it said you can get these cut cuddly animals for a few dollars. I also like the part where it said you might find  the perfect pet for you. We had to  make a poster persuading people to buy a pet. To give it a second chance at life. Look at the poster then think about what you can do.

Get lockers in schools

 

We read a text about someone wanting to get lockers for there school. I really like the hook when it said how would you like to put your stuff in a crate and every time you turned about something was gone. That really hooked me into read it. This is my poster and we had to design lockers for this task with sables I have them in the big words in the middle.

Learning about Maori

 We have been learning about asking questions in Te Reo, about what the boy is doing. We have answered using the words, kai (eating), noho (sitting) and hikoi (walking) in a sentence.

In the picture a person is asking what is the boy doing and the other one is replying.

E.g Kei te kai te tamaiti.

He is eating.

Making comment better

  We are learning about making comments better this way is better to fix it up, Because you add in a helpful thing in the comment, a positive comment and a thoughtful thing. To help the person how made the blog even better.

 For reading for the last few days. We have been learning about questioning. Questioning is when we wright question down when we are reading a book.  That what we had to do to answer are question we have to read on and if we can not answered the question we have to use are prior knowledge. Prior knowledge is what we already know. But if we can not use are prior knowledge we have to do some research. I wrote my questions on a posted note. Theses are some of my questions that I could not answer. 

• If he likes company why is she not in a team.
• Why would you stop school for a sport 
• Why was he biking on gravel in the first place 
• Will that race make is arm sorer than it already is
• How can he still race

Day 7: Paralympics

The it is the last day of the activity's day 7 and it is about the Paralympics. The first activity is we have to chose someone that we would like to cyclic on one bike with is we were to compete in a race. Activity 2 is Paralympics fundraiser were we have to chose what we would do to fundraiser for the Paralympics because it is really expensive. Activity 3 is we have to choose a sport that we would change for the Paralympics.

Day 6: Entertaining The crowed  first activity we have to chose which is the best uniform for new Zealand and rank it. Activity 2 choose how would be the best to hold the Olympics in Rio. Activity 3 rewriting the story.
